The History of College Park Airport in Maryland
Only one airport can claim the title of the “world’s oldest, continuously-operating” one. That title belongs to College Park Airport, located in Maryland, some 25 miles from the state’s major facility, Baltimore-Washington International Airport.
College Park’s own origins can be directly traced to the Wright Brothers. Although their sustained, controlled, and powered flight at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, as well documented, had occurred in 1903, it had not been until 1908, when their attempt to interest the Europeans in their design had generated sufficient interest in it in their own country. The Wright Model A Military Flyer, one of three aircraft submitted to fulfill the US Army Aeronautical Division’s requirements for “a motorized, heavier-than-air flying machine and the training of two pilots,” had first flown from nearby Ft. Myer, Virginia, later that year, but its perilous fate had led to the injury of

Although Fayetteville, North Carolina, is nearly 50 miles (80 km) from Raleigh’s city limits, it is in the designated market area.

Rookie goaltenders have had success in the Stanley Cup Playoffs before – most notably with Ken Dryden in 1971 and Patrick Roy in 1986, both leading the Montreal Canadiens to the Cup – but never before has a crop of rookie goalies dominated the playoffs like they have this season.
Of the five remaining teams in this year’s playoffs, three are led by rookie goalies and another by a first-year starter. Carolina’s Cam Ward, Buffalo’s Ryan Miller, Anaheim’s Ilya Bryzgalov, and San Jose’s Vesa Toskala have all enjoyed incredible playoff success thus far.
Seven-year veteran Dwayne Roloson of the Edmonton Oilers, who was acquired in a mid-season trade with the Minnesota Wild, is the only experienced goaltender left. I don’t think anyone would have predicted that, especially with the presence of such big-name goalies as Martin Brodeur and Miikka Kiprusoff, and other veteran backstops or NHL powerhouses like Detroit’s Manny
On the first day of free agency all the big name defensemen have been on the move. I think Pittsburgh made the best deals of the day landing Paul Martin and Zbynek Michalek. Both exceptionally good at helping keep the puck out of the net and should be a good mix with the already offensively talented defensemen in Pittsburgh in Kris Letang, and Alex Goligoski. Leaving Pittsburgh is Sergei Gonchar who signed with the Ottawa Senators and got the money and contract length Pittsburgh didn’t want to give him. These signings should be putting the Penguins back on top the eastern conference.
The Philadelphia Flyers may have the best top five defensemen in the NHL by resigning restricted free agent Braydon Coubourn and trading their 2012 second-round draft pick to Tampa Bay Lightning for Andrej Meszaros. Which potentially gives the Flyers the best defense corps in the league. Making up for the loss of Paul Martin the New Jersey Devils signed Anton Volchenkov to a
[ Part 7 Here - www.youtube.com ] Follow my YouTube video updates on Twitter. – twitter.com The HBO Sports documentary Broad Street Bullies, a look at one of pro sports most polarizing teams, the legendary Philadelphia Flyers Stanley Cup championship squads of the 1970s. This exclusive presentation will tell the backstories of these engaging and colorful athletes, who won back-to-back Stanley Cups in 1974 and 1975 with a bold, aggressive style that sparked controversy and criticism. HBOs Broad Street Bullies is an excellent and well-produced documentary that portrays the evolution of the Philadelphia Flyers, said Comcast-Spectacor chairman and Flyers founder Ed Snider. It brings back many wonderful memories for me, and it uncovers some new insights into the great story of our two Stanley Cup Championship teams. We are truly honored that this part of Philadelphia Flyers history will be seen nationally on HBO. I want to personally thank producer George Roy and his talented team for this historical tribute to the Flyers. This film explores how a group of characters, who also happened to be an extraordinarily talented collection of hockey players that enjoyed contact on the ice, formed one of the most prominent and controversial teams in pro sports history, says Ross Greenburg, president, HBO Sports. We are going to re-trace the steps that led to the love affair between the city and the team, and show how to this day these players are revered in Philadelphia and despised …
Red Wings Steamroller Rolls On
The Red Wings Steamroller Rolls On

U. S. Sports Media, Inc
On the eve of game three of the Stanley Cup Finals, it seems inevitable that the Detroit Red Wings will soon hoist hockey’s most beloved trophy for the fifth time in twelve years. This team, like their championship predecessors, seems like a steamroller on ice, a “beat-down” machine that cannot be stopped. Oh, I had high hopes when the playoffs started, but those hopes began to fade as the opponents fell one by one. First it was Columbus who went down, and without much of a fight mind you; Anaheim followed, almost pulling off the victory by taking the Wings to seven games; then came the Chicago Blackhawks who didn’t play as well as the statistics indicate.
So here we are, Detroit leading the Penguins 2 games to none as the series heads to Pittsburgh. Sigh.
Look, I’m not a Detroit hater by any means. God bless
The Doctor is in! Here is my weekly showcase of players who are most likely available in your league and could be valuable to your team. Since we’ve got more than one week to catch up on, I’ll also name some more obvious ones that are more likely to have been picked up, but still should be named just in case.
HITTERS
Jay Bruce- OF, Cincinnati Reds
Bruce was finally called up from AAA-Louisville on Tuesday, and proceeded to reach base in eight of his first ten plate appearances. You’ve heard all the hype on one of the top prospects in America, and you should believe it. If by some miracle no one has picked him up in your league, do so this instant. Do not tarry!
Fantasy Diagnosis: If he hasn’t been picked up already, your league is less active than Terry Bradshaw’s hair growth.
Pedro Feliz- 3B, Philadelphia Phillies
Feliz has always been a decent hitter, and is benefiting from his switch from San
When Pierre Blanchard had ascended from Philadelphia in a hot air balloon on January 9, 1793 and made the 15-mile journey across the Delaware River to Depford, New Jersey, he had made the Western hemisphere’s first aerial flight, sparking a long line of aviation accomplishments in the Garden state.
Charles Durant, of Jersey City, for example, had subsequently become the first American balloonist to fly in 1830 and Dr. Solomon Andrews, constructing the first dirigible three years later, rose above Perth Amboy and flew to Long Island, then an unheard-of achievement by air.
The Boland brothers, of Rahway, built the first fixed-wing aircraft in 1909 and became the first to fly in South America. Three years later, in 1912, Oliver Simmons carried the first official sack of mail across Raritan Bay, from South Amboy to Perth Amboy, in a Wright Flyer. The first five World War I flying aces had hailed from New Jersey, earning the title in 1918. The
